This cocktail was invented by Gaspare Campari in the 1860s, originally called the Milano-Torino which are the locals of the main ingredients. As this drink gained popularity with American tourists, the Italians changed the name to honor their guests and a play on the Italian word for bitter, “Amaro.”

1 oz Campari
1 oz. sweet vermouth
1-3 oz soda
Garnish: orange slice
Prep: pour ingredients over ice in glass, top with soda
