First appearing in “Judge Jr.’s” 1927 book, Here’s How, this cocktail originally listed blended scotch as the base ingredient. Harry Craddock changed this to just “whisky” in the Savoy Cocktail Book 3 years later. History posits that the upscale Vendome Club in Los Angeles began serving the Brown Derby circa 1935 – a cocktail named after its neighbor and biggest competitor. No one is quite sure why, but we are glad they did.
2 oz bourbon
1 oz grapefruit juice
0.75 oz honey syrup
Garnish: lemon twist
Prep: Shake ingredients over ice and double strain into a chilled coupe. Garnish.
