The invention of the Champagne Cocktail is known to be sometime before 1862. Jerry Thomas published the recipe in The Bon Vivant’s Guide and it has not changed since then. It is one of the most popular classic cocktails, appearing in Casablanca, An Affair to Remember, Match Point, and The Godfather Part II – among many films and books.
- 5 oz sparkling wine
- 1 Angostura-soaked sugar cube
- Garnish: lemon twist
- Prep: Pour sparkling wine. Add bitter soaked cube and garnish.
