El Diablo

We don’t know if this drink is an original creation of Trader Vic’s, but the first written reference is in his 1946 Book of Food and Drink. It plays on the traditional tequila and lime pairing, but adds the kick of ginger beer (a spicier form of ginger ale) and Crème de Cassis (a black currant liqueur).


  • 1.5 oz Reposado Tequila
  • 0.5 oz lime juice
  • 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
  • 4 oz ginger beer
  • Garnish: Float of .5 oz Crème de Cassis. Lime wheel.
  • Prep: Build, stir, garnish.
