While many people think this cocktail was created on a beach in some exotic land, it was actually formulated in 1944 by Trader Vic at Trader Vic’s in Oakland, CA. Friends who were visiting from Tahiti were guinea pigs for this new creation and upon tasting it one exclaimed “Mai Tai-Roe Ae!” – which translates to “Out of this world, the best!” Thus the Mai Tai found its name.
2 oz Zaya Rum
1 oz lime juice
0.5 Pierre Ferand Dry Orange Curacao
0.25 oz Orgeat
0.25 oz simple syrup
Garnish: Mint sprig
Prep: Shake, strain and garnish.
