The Old Pal made it’s first apperance in print in the 1922 book “ABC of Mixing Cocktails” by harry MacElhone. The book claims the inventor was Sparrow Robertson, the sporting editor of the New York Herald in Paris. This drink would become the Boulevardier with the substitution of bourbon for rye in 1930’s cocktai lbook ” The Savoy Cocktail Book” by Harry Craddock.
