As with many cocktails, history is less-than-definitive on this well-known classic. Harry MacElhone and Pat MacGarry lay claim to this cocktails invention sometime around 1920. MacElhone’s recipe is the classic French style of equal parts, while MacGarry’s is much more spirituous. We prefer to toe the line with a middle-ground formula.
2 oz cognac
0.75 oz lemon juice
0.5 oz Triple Sec
Garnish: Lemon twist
